I am taking my dog to be trained as a "reading pal" for children with autism and ADHD. The program uses dogs to help kids focus on something they like while doing a task such as reading.. DOZER actually perks up his ears and listens and watches them intently. It is so rewarding, knowing you (more importantly, the dogs) help the kids better their lives. I WILL think of something to do this week that can give back (maybe even have my son join in too). Take care and good luck on this task to everyone - it's an important one!!
I volunteer with the local libarary and the local public art gallery in our small town :) Volunteering is an amazing thing to do and I have always loved doing it as much as I can :)
I am going to donate some of my time to a local animal shelter : )
My daughter and I donated 1 hour to helping make 100 blankets for local womens shelter for kids, making dog and cat toys for local shelter, knit hats for homeless shelter and decorate paper bags for local Meals on Wheels. It felt great to hear my 7 year old say she wants to do that again and teach others to help.
I just thought about to go volunteering to the nearest homeless shelter to help making some soup and bring some blanket. It is sooo cold now, here in Hungary. almost -20 Celsius.
i help by giving flowers etc. to the erie county home for the residents there.
and hopefully being able to have 1 or 2 over to my home to spend some holidays, have a nice dinner, watch tv, play games etc.. just to let them know that they are loved and someone cares.
I've been volunteering in my Church for 30 years. I sing with a small group....what used to be called the Folk Group...... just singers and guitars. The parishoners are always thankful and often stop us to say so. Sometimes i want to leave the group, but the people love what we do so much and I love giving back to my community using the gift of song that God gave me.
Our family volunteers for various things at a local camp for Children with Special Needs. We go there often to help with repairs, events and whatever they need us for. It's a lot of fun and if our boys want to roam around, its safe!
I too volunteer at my church and over the years hsve done many things. But have been looking for a way to step it up a notch and checked out some of the links and ended up signing up for a couple of opportunities near my area via Volunteer Match. Thanks Ty for sharing those links - they really helped.
Thanks for the ideas of what more we can do, you are the best Ty!
I already do volunteer for my church. We go everywhere fromnursing to student programs. This week, because of a sad fact, I am spending my time at the hospital with my uncle that is at the ICU . When people think of charity they frequently think of shelters, nursing homes and animals. We can´t forget that sometimes the ones that most need us are just beside us, waiting for our free time to be spend with them. I would like you to think of that this week too.
Also aheah of you this week, Moderate a Autism Support group, we meet 1st Saturday of each month. Next Month we may have a Bowling outing instead of typical meeting. One of our local businesses give's us a good discount, and we all have a blast.
This goes to show that Ty Pennington sure has amazing fans! I've enjoyed reading all your volunteer experiences; it's all about giving of one's self for the benefit of others -> HIGH FIVES TO YOU ALL!
Sorry- I tried to post a link but it didn't work
